Ownership verified by KD Not too bad but has a few quirks

Avg.Rating: star star star star

Strengths:

- Interesting colour, what I'd call a dark magenta. (A decent violet colour would be much better!) - Accepts standard P60 drop-ins as long as they have a spring for the positive contact. - Nice firm action from the switch. - O-ring on each of the three threads. - Looks like it's well made (with the exception noted below).

Weaknesses:

- Not quite a standard WF-501B design. - The hole for the silicone switch cap is 15mm diameter, which is wider than the normal 14mm. - 15mm switch caps are not commonly available. The one that comes with the torch is 14.5mm so not a perfect fit. A normal 14mm GITD switch cover can fit but it's much easier to pull out of the hole than it should be and tends to sit off centre. - There is an extra piece of plastic fitted to the positive end of the battery compartment with a metal contact riveted through the middle. The LED driver needs to have a spring on the positive contact to press against one side of this plastic divider and rivet while the positive end of the 18650 cell presses against the other side. Maybe it helps prevents shorts on the back of the driver, but it introduces more contact resistances.

Summary:

For making a torch that stands out as being something different this is a good starting point. Pity about the switch cap hole size; that's annoying.
